OwensboroHealth.org/Muhlenberg Momentum • 3 The Muhlenberg County Health Coalition (MCHC) was started to bring a sense of community to the various organizations involved in the health of our citizens. By bringing together these organizations, MCHC hopes to improve community health and educate our citizens by addressing identified health needs. The group meets monthly to share information and programs from each represented organization that may benefit the people served by other partner organizations. This information-sharing allows more collaboration and success for all the programs involved. The coalition focuses on three primary needs: » » Transportation » » Housing » » A local resource guide Rides to appointments The Transportation committee has partnered with Pennyrile Allied Community Services, Inc. (PACS) to provide transportation through a medical voucher program to citizens of Muhlenberg County who need transport to medical appointments — including dental, pharmacy and specialty care — for a cost of $4 per round trip. The Felix E. Martin, Jr. Foundation provided funding to offset costs to those in need of transportation. To make a reservation, please allow 24 to 48 hours advance notice and call 270-931-5118 or  270-931-5119 . Access to housing and shelter The Housing committee is gathering information to determine the existing need within the community. A representative from the Room in the Inn shelter in Bowling Green shared information about how they got their program off the ground. The committee is also considering other options for housing to assist this population. Contact list of resources The Resource Guide committee is working to update the contact information of community service agencies so that this guide can be printed and made available online for organizations who need it to serve their clients, as well as for community members who may need information about what resources are available. M.O.R.E. Health Expos MCHC organizations are coming together to host two Muhlenberg Opportunities Resources and Education (M.O.R.E.) Health Expos on March 26 at Harbin Memorial Library in Greenville and on April 20 at Central City Public Library. Both M.O.R.E. Health Expos will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Community members of all ages are invited to these free events to learn about issues affecting health. Owensboro Health will have a trauma educator on-site to discuss fall prevention and bike safety at the March event and car seat safety checks and free car seats to those in need will be available during the April event.
