Momentum A MUHLENBERG COUNTY SPECIAL SECTION 2 • Momentum The Greater Muhlenberg Chamber of Commerce facilitates Leadership Muhlenberg and Youth Leadership classes each year. Leadership Muhlenberg consists of business professionals from organizations serving Muhlenberg County. The Youth Leadership program selects 20 high school juniors and seniors from Muhlenberg County to participate. One day a month, from September to May, these Leadership students tour different industries and businesses in Muhlenberg County. January is the month set aside for them to learn about healthcare. Seeing, listening and asking The Leadership classes tour Owensboro Health’s Emergency Medical Services facility, including the 911 dispatch office and ambulance bay. They are able to see the equipment taken on an emergency call and hear directly from the leaders who manage the teams of first responders. Then the Leadership classes tour the Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Healthplex facility — which houses Urgent Care, Orthopedics, Imaging, Lab and Primary Care services — to hear from primary care providers, nurses and radiology technologists about what they do and why they chose to go into healthcare. Finally, the Leadership classes visit Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital to hear from department leaders and tour the Outpatient Therapy and Surgical departments. They wear gowns, hats and booties in the operating room and speak with medical professionals to ask any questions they have. Leadership Muhlenberg Healthcare Day is always a meaningful experience for all involved. Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital has been a fixture in this community for over 80 years. Inviting Leadership Muhlenberg students to tour our facilities is just another important way we give back. Want to participate?
