Owensboro Health | Lift | December 2018
Community Care 4 Owensboro Health • December 2018 By Ed Heath, DSc Chief Operating Officer, Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital When Muhlenberg Community Hospital opened its doors in 1938, the world was a very different place. The Great Depression had the country firmly in its grip. World War II was still a year away. A loaf of bread didn’t even cost a dime. A lot changes over the span of 80 years. The past five years have been full of changes, and I hope you’ll agree that they’ve been positive ones. In 2014, Owensboro Health began helping to manage the administrative side of Muhlenberg Community Hospital. A year later, we strengthened that partnership, committing to a 20-year lease of this hospital. A steady partnership One thing hasn’t changed: The people treating you in our hospital are still here to care for our family, friends and neighbors. We’re the same people you bump into at the store, chat with in the stands at school sports events and sit with in the pews at church. At a time when many small hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout Kentucky are struggling, our facility is thriving. With the support of Owensboro Health, we’ve seen improvements to the infrastructure and technology at Muhlenberg Community Hospital, and we’ve also seen an expansion in our services. Our partnership with Owensboro Health also means our patients now have access to the health system’s network of providers. Since our commitment has always been about making care accessible, it only makes sense to bring safe, quality care to you right here at home. A clear mission Our past has always been important to us in Muhlenberg County, but you don’t get to where you’re going by looking back. The story of where we have been is special and rich, but it will be surpassed by the future we’re bringing to life every day. As part of Owensboro Health, our mission now aligns with theirs: We exist to heal the sick and to improve the health of the communities we serve. It’s our pleasure and our privilege to continue serving you and your communities, from Bremen to Beechmont, Penrod to Powderly, and beyond. The people we serve are the greatest source of our success, and we thank you for giving us the chance to care for you. All of us at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital are excited about the future to come, and we’re looking forward to getting there as the people of this wonderful county have always done: Together. Our staff is proud to celebrate Owensboro Health’s 80th year of caring for the community.
