Walk into the Owensboro Health Healthpark front door any day of the week and you'll find a welcoming atmosphere and positive energy throughout the facility. You’ll see groups moving to the music in an exercise class, teenagers shooting hoops in the full- size gymnasium, local swim athletes diving into the 10-lane lap pool, friends playing cards in the main lobby and all ages using the over 100 pieces of equipment on the fitness floor. This was the vision for the world-class wellness center that today provides health and healing to thousands of regional residents. Meeting a clear need Twenty years ago, Owensboro Health made a promise to the community to impact the overall quality of life in the region. After a comprehensive study of the health of the community, it became clear that there were serious health needs to be addressed, including heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Owensboro Health embarked on an innovative project to focus on prevention and wellness instead of merely treatment of diseases: The Healthpark. Services offered were based on the top health risks for the community. The mission statement was updated to “We exist to heal the sick and to improve the health of the communities we serve .” This health and wellness center is now integrated with many of the hospital services Owensboro Health has to offer, meaning that the community benefits from a full continuum of care to help keep them well and restore them to health when needed. Now as the Healthpark celebrates 20 years of commitment and service to the community, there are many people that continue to make the Healthpark a part of their life every day .
