Thanks to Owensboro Health Foundation’s generous donation of a freezer, the volunteer auxiliary is able to store cookies and muffins that they purchase through fundraising. These cookies and muffins are baked by Deb Schrooten, Judy Marshal, Phyllis Payne, Rose Lee, Ann Johnson, Phyllis Whittaker and Kristine Henning, along with Henning’s teenage daughters. Once these items are baked, they are placed in the common kitchen area of the Hospitality Suites at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital (OHRH) for residents and guests to enjoy. Debbie Luttrell, manager of Volunteer and Guest Services at OHRH, said, “This program took about six months to come together. All of the cookies and muffins are purchased by the volunteers through fundraising that they do on their own time.” Debbie continued, “The guests staying in the suites experience a time in their life that was not planned, and the situations Sweet treats from sweet peeps are usually traumatic — babies in the NICU, families of critical care patients. Many times they do not stop to go get food, and having these items available at least helps them get their day started or have a sweet treat when they come in to rest or take a break.” OHRH Volunteer Auxiliary members bake cookies for the Hospitality Suites common area, where patients and guests can enjoy them.
