Owensboro Health | Lift | June 2018

You may know that the Healthpark has a gym or an indoor walking track. You may have heard about a Zumba class or a dive-in movie for the kids. You may know its pool is home to high school and competition swim teams in the area. But the Healthpark is much more than just a fitness center. The Healthpark is a wellness center. It is the only medical-based fitness facility certified by the Medical Fitness Association (MFA) in the state of Kentucky. That means all of the fitness trainers and coaches hold at least a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. That means that all employees at the Healthpark are CPR-certified and trained to use an automated external defibrillator. It also means that the Healthpark is held to the MFA’s high standards for quality. When you look around the fitness floor, you will see people of all ages and levels of fitness taking that next step to become healthy. Some may be recovering from surgery or are there to manage a particular issue. This is why it is especially important for our staff to be readily available to help members understand how to use any of the dozens of machines on the fitness floor. Our certified fitness coaches are available to perform a personal fitness assessment for our members. They can then write an “exercise prescription” to help members reach their goals and become more active. Owensboro Health’s mission is to heal the sick and to improve the health of the communities we serve. That’s why the Healthpark is focused on wellness for everyone. For more information about Healthpark programming or membership, call 270-681-1115 or visit OwensboroHealth.org/HEALTHPARK The Doc Is In and Walk With a Doc are free community events to bring doctors together to meet with patients outside of the exam room. The Striders walking and running club is open to the public on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. to provide encouragement to all walkers and runners. Golden Partners is a wellness program designed to help individuals age 50 and older maintain sound bodies, minds and spirits. We hold several health fairs and screenings throughout the year. We offer support groups and counseling sessions. We host cooking classes and weight management programs. We create free web resources like Fitness Friday and Wellness Wednesday. The Healthpark is home base for so many of the programs intended to heal the sick and to improve the health of the communities we serve. Free! than a fitness center More OwensboroHealth.org  5
