4 Owensboro Health • March 2018 Getting medical care can be stressful on its own. It may involve taking time off work, getting someone to watch children or trying to get transportation. When you add in a longer distance to travel, it can go from difficult to impossible. That’s why Owensboro Health is bringing three Healthplexes to the region, placed in the communities of Henderson, Madisonville and Muhlenberg County. These facilities offer outpatient care options close to home, reducing—or even eliminating—the need to travel to a larger community and facility. The WHY is YOU Healthcare is an essential part of life, whether you’re sick or well. Making healthcare convenient and accessible makes it easier for people to take care of themselves. That’s the whole purpose behind the Healthplexes: Helping make sure you can take good care of yourself and those you love. Over the past few years, more and more of the healthcare people received has been outside the walls of a hospital. Preventive care and outpatient specialist services are more important than ever. Owensboro Health Regional Hospital and Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital are two facilities of which we are very proud, but we know nobody wants to spend time in a hospital. Putting the Healthplexes in communities throughout the region is an important step. By making outpatient care accessible, we hope to keep you healthy enough to avoid a hospital stay. Take advantage of our network The Healthplexes also make it easier for you to get advanced care. Owensboro Health has a network of more than 180 providers—including doctors, nurse practitioners and physician assistants—in dozens of different specialties. If you need to see a specialist, we can easily refer you to them and help you access their skills and services as quickly as possible. The Healthplexes also use the same secure electronic medical records system as the rest of the health system. That means a specialist can see the records you have from a visit at any Owensboro Health facility. Quick access to records can make a big difference when time is a factor. The records system also has a portal that allows you to access your healthcare record online—through a computer, tablet or smartphone app—as well as look up your medications, see your appointment schedule, and send a message or question to your healthcare providers.
